A Red Cross blood drive was held Friday at Asbury United Methodist Church in Portland with 107 people donating blood.

CHRISTMAS AT THE CABIN

Limberlost State Historic Site, 200 E. Sixth St. in Geneva will host Christmas at the cabin on Saturday, Dec. 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Limberlost cabin will be decorated for the season and the gift shop will be filled with holiday gift items. Folk music will be provided by Nancy Blough.

There will also be goodies to snack on.

Children may may meet with Santa or have their pictures taken with him for $6. Children may also meet Limber Jim and watch his slideshow about the Limberlost Swamp.

A holiday craft project will take place in the Limberlost carriage house.

Also a drawing will be held at 4 p.m. for the winners of a wall-hanging quilt and a painting of the Loblolly Marsh.

Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for seniors and $1 for children under age 12.

LUGAR SYMPOSIUM

Rebecca Newman and James Brosher, both Jay County High School juniors have been selected to attend U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar’s “Symposium for Tomorrow’s Leaders” at the University of Indianapolis on Saturday, Dec. 11.

Lugar will address students on national and world affairs and students will then participate in a choice of ten discussion groups.

Rebecca is the daughter of Lee and Sharon Newman, Portland, and James is the son of Thomas and Georgia Brosher, Dunkirk.

SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED

Carla Cash, the daughter of Kevin and Cheryl Cash, Union City, received an Ed’s Warehouse scholarship for Ball State University.

The scholarship fund was established with the Ball State University Foundation in 2000 to provide financial assistance for dependents of employees of Ed’s Warehouse and other outstanding students who reside in Delaware and surrounding counties.[[In-content Ad]]
