Blood drive to me held in memory of Dave Miller
Taking Note
The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive in memory of Dave Miller May 31 at the Jay Community Center.
Miller and a passenger were killed in March when his plane crashed in Kentucky while attempting to land in poor weather. Memorial cards will be available at the drive and will be delivered to Miller’s family.
The blood drive is sponsored by Meshberger Brothers and homemade soup and other snacks will be provided for donors.
Additional blood donations are being sought as supply has been interrupted due to a variety of natural disasters including tornadoes in the southern states and widespread flooding.
Appointments are encouraged but not required. To schedule ahead of time, call (800) 733-2767 or visit redcrossblog.org and use the code “jcommc” for the Portland drive.
Retiring
A former teacher and principal in Jay County will be retiring at the end of the school year.
Randy Rains, who is principal of Willard Elementary School in Winchester, taught for 10 years and was a principal for 30 years.
He began teaching fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades at Madison Township School in Jay County and later a became principal at Pennville, Redkey and Judge Haynes elementaries and East Jay Middle School before going to Winchester.
To speak
David Simmons will speak about the Forts of Anthony Wayne on Sunday, June 5, at the Fort Recovery State Museum.

Festival
The Huntington Jaycees will present a Renaissance Festival this weekend at the Huntington Pal Club.
The festival will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday from noon until 8 p.m.
Quilt show
The Swiss Days Quilt Show will be held July 28, 29 and 30 at South Adams school cafeteria, 1000 W. Parkway in Berne.
Quilts may be entered for exhibit, entered to sell or entered in a quilt challenge.
