Bloomfield announces life skill winners (11/22/05)

Bloomfield Elementary School announced its life skill winners for October for the life skill “perseverance.”

Winners were Macy Chrisman, Eric Chrisman, Avery Gaskill, Jacob Hilty, Jade Hollopeter, Ethan Michael, Cassie Miller, Braden Muhlenkamp, Kody Muhlenkamp, Andrew Newland, Joey Nichols, Christopher Pfeifer and Sidney Robbins.

Students were recognized by McDonald’s and Coca Cola Bottling.

Dean’s Honor List

David Knoth, son of Richard and Priscilla Knoth of rural Bryant, was recently honored at a reception for students making the 2004-05 Dean’s Honor List of the College of Sciences and Humanities at Ball State University.

He was also inducted in the Golden Key International Honour Society.

Knoth is a senior at Ball State and is studying pre-pharmacy.

His brother Matthew Knoth was also honored for the 2004-05 Dean’s List at Ball State University. Matthew is now a student at Purdue University School of Pharmacy.

Essay winners

U.S. Senator Dick Lugar recently announced the winners of the 2005-06 Dick Lugar Youth Essay Contest for eighth grade students in Indiana.

The theme was “Memorable Cookouts from Hoosier Farms,” and students were asked to reflect on cookouts they have shared with their families and then describe the items on the menu that made them spectacular; including the nutritional value.

Winning from Jay County were Ben Vance and Kellie Howell from East Jay Middle School.



Disney teacher

Kathleen Tooley, a second/third grade teacher at South Adams Elementary has been recognized as a Disney Teacher Award Nominee.

She will now submit an application and letters of recommendation to be considered for the 2006 Disney teacher of the year Award.

Four applicants will be chosen in the spring as 2006 Disney Teacher Award Honorees and one will be chosen as Disney Teacher of the Year. The Honorees will receive $10,000 and a $5,000 grant for their schools and a six day institute with their school principals to Walt Disney World Resort.

Published

Margaret Dick, Portland, was recently published in the Dec. 2005 issue of the national magazine “Annie’s Favorite Crochet.”

Dick is a freelance designer and has been creating and submitting original crochet designs to publishers since 1996. Her design for a house blessing wall hanging will be featured in the magazine.

She has also entered her designs at the Jay County Fair for more than 20 years and has won several ribbons.

Welcome home banquet

The Hoosier Heartland Chapter of the American Red Cross invites Red Cross volunteers and a guest to the Hurricane Season 2005 Welcome Home Banquet on Dec. 8.

The banquet will be held at the Occasions Banquet Facility, 305 North 600 East, Selma. Meet and greet will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., dinner will be at 6:30 and a program at 7 p.m.
