Bloomfield names winners (06/01/06)

Bloomfield Elementary recently recognized students honored with the “Win With Life Skills” award for the month of May. Staff members nominate students who use life skills daily but especially display the one spotlighted for the month. Students were recognized by the PTO and Coca Cola Bottling for displaying “caring.”
Winners are: Jill Dirksen, Blaik Duran, Annie J. Graber, Collin Haines, Matthew Hilty, Troy Homan, Mariah Lawrence, Zach Metcalf, Andrew Newland, Erika Nuckols, Skylar Preston, Katie Robbins, Jaclyn VanCise, Brandon VanSkyock and Justine Wallischeck.
Purdue grad
Phillip A. Kegerreis, son of Neil and Waunita Kegerreis, Pennville, recently graduated from IU-PUI, Indianapolis, with a bachelor of science degree in Purdue University’s school of electrical engineering technology.
He is a 2001 graduate of Jay County High School.
Summer reading
Fort Recovery Public Library will begin its summer reading program “Paws, Claws, Scales and Tales” on Monday, June 5, and will continue through July 13. There will be crafts, games, story time and prize drawings.
Kelly Mueller, a veterinarian technician, will speak on and demonstrate pet care on Wednesday, June 7, at 1:30 p.m. at the Hein Amphitheater in Fort Recovery.
Also Psi Iota Xi Sorority is sponsoring a writing contest for students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. Rules and ideas are available at the library.
Open house
The Jay County Historical Museum will have an open house on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the museum at 903 E. Main Street in Portland.
Featured will be a display of Portland memorabilia from the collection of local resident Doug Loy. Some of the items include a hosiery cart and glass advertising piece from Weilers and a Hartley Ice Cream light.
Admission to the museum is free.
Library events
The Jay County Public Library will offer a series of hands-on cooking programs each Monday in June for adults. Candy making will be June 5, cool no-bake desserts will be June 12, cooking with the Jay County Extension Homemakers will be June 19 and summer cooking with Linda Frantz will be June 26.
Registration is required and there is a $3 food fee per program. For more information or to register, call the library at (260) 726-7890.
Also local author Roger Domingo, who is also pastor of the Trinity United Methodist Church, will be at the library on Tuesday, June 6, at 6:30 p.m. He will be available to sign copies of his book Eye Openers and Show Stoppers in the Bible.
