Blue Jays defeat Fort freshmen (01/22/08)

DELPHOS, Ohio - The Fort Recovery High School freshman boys basketball team picked up its first win of the season Saturday. But, the Indians couldn't duplicate the effort Monday as they fell 54-28 to the host St. John's Blue Jays.

Fort Recovery (1-8) managed just two first-quarter points and was down by 16 at the half. The Blue Jays put the game away with 18 points in the third quarter.

Shane Brunswick paced the Indians with 14 points. Ryan Schoen had four points and three assists, and Aaron Sutter and Ryan Link also scored four points.

Chiefs down Driver

East Jay Middle School's wrestling team got eight pins Monday as it earned a 51-38 victory over Winchester Driver.

Four of the Chiefs' pins came inside of a minute, with Matt Taylor dominating the 175-pound match for a win in 24 seconds. Lucas Boyer (225) followed him with a pin in 27 seconds, followed by Matt Segraves (100) in 35 and Nick Leonhard (125) in 37.

Brandon Poore (105) won in 1:36, and Preston Overholser (120), Braden Smith-Lykins (85) and Nathan Frisch (160) also added pins. Conner Ray (75) won by an 11-6 decision.

Segraves, Heng Hong, Hai Hong, Pierce Clott, Kyle Garringer, Nick Spahr and Kan Bray all turned in pins as the junior varsity team won 42-12.

Bluffton tops Stars

The South Adams seventh grade boys basketball team's season came to a close Monday with a 50-12 loss to the Bluffton Tigers in the opening round of the Allen County Athletic Conference tournament.

Chase Mosser was the only Starfire to score a field goal as he finished with nine points. Tyler Brackin, Cody Wickey and Blake Fox had one point apiece.

Perfection continues

DECATUR - East Jay's sixth grade girls basketball team stayed perfect Monday with a 19-12 victory over St. Joe.

Tasya Smith paced the Chiefs with a seven-point effort as they improved to 5-0. Katie Aker grabbed five rebounds, and Alyson Lucas added four points.

Sara Bollenbacher led the B team (4-0) to a 25-10 victory with eight points, six rebounds and five assists. Mackenzie Overholser totaled eight points and six boards as well.[[In-content Ad]]
