Blue Jays' JV gets past Fort Recovery (01/23/04)

The Indians never found their offense Thursday while the Blue Jays came up with just enough in the second half.

The Fort Recovery junior varsity girls basketball team had some major shooting problems Thursday in a 37-31 defeat against Delphos St. Johns.

The Tribe (10-5) had a 12-11 lead at halftime as both teams shot below 20 percent. However, the Blue Jays’ numbers improved by leaps and bounds of Fort Recovery’s in the second half.

St. Johns shot 47 percent from the field after the intermission, while the Indians still only managed 27 percent. They went through a scoreless stretch which lasted several minutes spanning the third and fourth quarters as the Blue Jays pulled ahead by as many as 10 points and held on to win.

Tammy Pohlman carried the Blue Jays with 16 points, including a 10-of-12 effort from the foul line.

Kelly Link led Fort Recovery with seven points. Sara Fortkamp had five points, six steals and four assists, and Jackie Wenning also scored five points.

Jennalee Post had six rebounds, and Kelsie Will and Sam Staugler each added five for the Indians.

Indians split

Fort Recovery’s eighth grade boys basketball team put up 18 points in the first and fourth quarters on the way to a 49-40 victory over Delphos St. Johns Thursday. The seventh grade team went through a scoring drought in the middle two quarters in a 35-22 defeat.

Clin Tobe paced the eighth grade Indians (6-2) with 14 points and five rebounds. Lucas Staugler also reached double figures with 10 points.

Bobby Rammel and Curt Heitkamp scored eight points apiece.

Toby Metzger scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds for the seventh grade team, whcih scored just one point in the second quarter and three in the third. Wes Kahlig had five points and four rebounds, and Jordan Hess notched a team-high seven boards.

Baseball tryouts
