JCHS girls tennis
Jay County’s girls tennis team played its closest match since the season-opener, but fell short of its first victory. The Patriots dropped their sixth straight match, this time by a 3-2 score to the visiting Bluffton Tigers Thursday.
Carissa Wilkins picked up her second victory of the season, defeating Tess Crickard 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Jay County’s other win was a first for the No. 2 doubles pair of Cindy Muhlenkamp and Tiffani Bickel by a 6-2, 6-1 score over Angie Smith and Megan Harvey.
Angie Stults was in her match at No. 1 singles, but couldn’t quite break through for the first team victory of the season as she fell 6-4, 6-3 to Lia Larrea. At No. 3 singles Megan Adams lost 6-1, 6-4 to Rebecca Yergler, and at No. 1 doubles Megan Knittle and Jessica Muhlenkamp fell 6-1, 6-1 to Claire Peterson and Katie Vanderkolk.
Jay County and Bluffton finished junior varsity action in a 5-5 deadlock with Caitlin Dunn and Heather Ayers picking up singles wins for the Patriots. Winning doubles teams were Megan Huntsman and Briann Saxman, Betsy Knittle and Brittany Lewis, and Briann Saxman and Hannah McAbee.[[In-content Ad]]
