Bluffton edges Jay County freshmen

BLUFFTON - Jay County High School's boys basketball team slipped to 1-1 Monday with a 25-24 loss to the Bluffton Tigers.
Cade Price scored half of the Patriots' points in the defeat. Tyler Back added six points, and Taylor Fugiett scored four.
WJMS blasts Wes-Del
DUNKIRK - West Jay Middle School's eighth grade girls basketball team ran its record to 3-0 Monday with a 41-7 victory over visiting Wes-Del. The seventh grade team picked up its first win, 24-9.
Betsy Huffman paced the Eagle eighth graders with12 points. Chelsea Tighe added eight points, and Kimbra Edwards grabbed six rebounds.
Emily Back had six points and four rebounds for the WJMS seventh grade team (1-2). Courtney Finnerty, Andrea Henry and Kay Morgan each chipped in four points.
Chiefs crush Wilson
The East Jay girls basketball teams dominated Muncie Wilson Monday. The eighth grade squad rolled to a 40-5 win while the seventh graders turned in a 41-14 victory.
Katie Aker and Katlin Petro each scored 10 points for the eighth grade Chiefs (3-1), who shut out Wilson in the first quarter and allowed single points in the second and fourth. Kaitlen Hemmelgarn added five points.
The EJMS seventh graders gave up just one first-quarter point as they stayed perfect at 4-0. Catherine Dunn powered the team with 14 points, and Breanne McIntire, Lucy Hemmelgarn and McKensie Muhlenkamp each added six.
Vormohr wins eight
FORT WAYNE - Anne Vormohr led the Jay County Winter Swim Team this weekend as it competed in the Three Rivers Aquatics Club Holly Days Invitational.
Vormohr won eight of her events in the 11-12-year-old girls division to earn high-point honors. Alex Bader was the only other Jay County swimmer to earn a win, taking first place in three events in the 9-10-year-old girls division.
James Keen was second in a pair of events in the 13-14-year-old boys division, and Cady Farlow and Carley Stone also turned in runner-up efforts.
Schoenlein first
INDIANAPOLIS - Lizzy Schoenlein led a group of local athletes who competed in the Sharp's Gymnastics Academy Chalk Bowl in November.
Schoenlein won the Level 7 floor exercise competition with a 9.1. She was also eighth in the all-around.
Jocelyn Huey turned in a 9.2 for second place on the Level 4 vault, and Courtney Miles was third on the Level 7 floor with an 8.95. Miles added a score of 9.075 on the vault.
Korinna Schiendler had a 9.025 on the Level 5 vault, and Halle Hill scored an 8.4 on the same event.[[In-content Ad]]
