Bluhm shines in loss to Railroaders
South Adams roundup
BERNE — The Garrett Railroaders rallied from a 14-8 deficit in the final game Tuesday to defeat the South Adams High School volleyball team 25-15, 23-25, 17-25, 25-19, 16-14.
Alyssa Bluhm posted team-highs in kills (24), assists (28) and blocks (7) for the Starfires. She also added 12 digs. Cady Farlow had 14 digs, 10 kills, eight digs and five blocks in the contest, and Lauren Smith led all Starfires with 15 digs.
Emma Rosswurm added seven digs and two blocks while Caralie Farlow had a half dozen digs and kills. Morgan Alberson tallied eight digs, four kills and three blocks for the South Adams.
The South Adams junior varsity squad defeated the Railroaders 25-23, 25-9. Kylie Grabau led the South Adams offense with 11 kills, two blocks and an ace, and Chastity Guereca led all Starfires with 21 assists.
Johnston nets pair in loss
GAS CITY — Alaina Johnston scored a goal in each half for the Starfires, but the South Adams girls soccer team came up short Tuesday, falling to Mississenwa 4-2.
Sylvia Marbach assisted on Johnston’s first-half goal.
Johnston led South Adams with eight shots on net, while Riley Liechty, Tori Reiley and Michaela Rupp each added two shots. Gabrielle Amstutz stopped eight shots as goalkeeper for the Starfires.
Lions shutout Starfires
BERNE — The Leo Middle School eighth grade football team shut out South Adams on Tuesday, 32-0.
Joe Stuber led the eighth grade Starfires with 101 yards on 11 carries. He was also 3-of-5 passing for 28 yards. Victor Vasquez tallied 25 yards on six carries and two catches for 11 yards.
Stuber led the South Adams defense with 12 tackles, while Isaiah Baumgartner added seven.
Grant Shaffer had six tackles and a sack, Bodin Sikes tallied five tackles, and Brandon Newman and Terry Dawn each had three tackles and a fumble recovery.[[In-content Ad]]
