Bollenbacher, Steiner, lead the Starfires (04/30/08)

South Adams roundup

GARRETT - The Starfires' pair of senior leaders made sure their losing streak would not continue.

Daniel Bollenbacher tossed a complete-game shutout, and Jordan Steiner blasted a home run as the South Adams High School baseball team halted a four-game losing streak with a 6-0 win over the Garrett Railroaders.

Bollenbacher limited Garrett to just a pair of hits and two walks in seven innings. He struck out 11 batters for the Starfires, who had lost two games during their skid by one run in extra innings.

Steiner led the offense, which posted four of its six runs in the last two innings. He finished 2-for-4 with a double to go along with the home run, two runs and an RBI.

Jacob Sonnentag was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI, Kyle DeArmond drove in two runs with a double and Bollenbacher had two hits.

Track teams second

MONROEVILLE - Four athletes each won one event as the track teams each finished second in three-team action.

The Starfire boys scored 49 points, finishing behind host Heritage (85) and ahead of Bluffton (23). Heritage took the girls competition as well with 69 points, and South Adams and Bluffton each scored 44.

Roman Smith and Nathan Rupp each posted one win for the boys team. Smith took the 300-meter hurdles in 42.9 seconds, and Rupp won the 3,200 run in 10-minutes, 43.2 seconds.

Kylie Cisney matched Smith in the girls competition by winning the 300 hurdles in 52.4. Maddie Moore finished in 5:50.06 to win the 1,600 run.

South Adams also won the boys 4x100 relay and the girls 4x800 relay in 45.9 and 11:15 respectively.

Patriots top golfers

DECATUR - Each of the host Heritage Patriots' top four golfers matched or better the best score for South Adams as the Starfires lost 161-186.

Ryan Moser had the best score for South Adams with a 6-over-par 42 at Cross Creek Golf Course. Zack Sharp shot 47, Thurman Pursley hit a 48 and Landyn Waugh finished at 49.

Mark Farris had a 57.

South Adams also lost the junior varsity match to the Patriots, 201-230.[[In-content Ad]]
