Bond hearing set for $35 million SA project (02/21/07)

SAHS School Board

By By JACK RONALD-

BERNE - A public hearing on a construction bond issue of up to $35 million to build a new elementary and middle school for South Adams will be held Tuesday, March 6 at 7 p.m.

School board members agreed Tuesday to move forward with the construction project, which will replace an aging middle school in Geneva and an outdated elementary school in Berne.

Plans call for the new facility to be constructed on land adjacent to South Adams High School, with some functions of the buildings consolidated.

School officials have been dealing for years with a series of patchwork repairs to the two buildings, and board members have been discussing the possibility of constructing a new building for months.

The March 6 hearing, held in accordance with Indiana Public Law 1028, triggers a series of events leading to the sale of bonds for the project. On March 9, a public notice advertisement in connection with the bond issue will be published in Adams County newspapers.

A 30-day period follows during which opponents of the project could mount a remonstrance petition drive.[[In-content Ad]]
