Collegiate check-up
The Bluffton College men’s basketball team went 1-2 in its last three games, but it wasn’t because of a lack of effort from Brad Boyles.
Boyles, a South Adams graduate, had a career game in an 84-81 loss to Heidelberg Saturday, Nov. 29. He was also one of the top scorers for the Beavers in a loss to Kenyon Tuesday and a win over Earlham Wednesday, Nov. 26.
The senior was absolutely on fire against Heidelberg, lighting up the scoreboard for a career-best 31 points. He shot 11-of-14 (79 percent) from the field, and connected on all of his nine free throw attempts.
He added four rebounds, two assists and one steal in the contest.
Boyles was also near perfect in the victory over Earlham, going 6-of-7 from the field and 2-for-2 at the foul line for 15 points.
He had two rebounds, three assists and a steal as well.
The loss to Kenyon again saw Boyles miss just one field goal attempt as he scored 11 points finishing 4-of-5 from the field and 3-of-4 from the line. He had one rebound and one assist in just 13 minutes of play.
Heitkamp hits season high
A Fort Recovery graduate has been a major part of the Capital University women’s basketball team as it jumped back above .500.
Former Indian Sara Heitkamp, a sophomore, poured in a season-best 18 points to lead the Capital Crusaders to a 67-59 victory over Ohio Northern Monday. She also had double figures in a 65-50 win over Bluffton Wednesday.
Heitkamp and freshman teammate Kate Leopard came out firing 3-points as Capital built a 14-point lead. She finished 6-of-11 from the field and had seven rebounds, five assists and four steals in the victory.
The Crusaders (3-2) got another solid all-around game from Heitkamp, who had 10 points against Bluffton. She filled the rest of the statistical categories with six rebounds, five assists, four steals and one block.
