Braves roll over South Adams

BERNE — The Starfires got on the board. But their one goal was not nearly enough.
South Adams High School’s girls soccer team scored first Tuesday, but then gave up eight consecutive goals in an 8-1 loss to the visiting Blackhawk Christian Braves.
Rachel Simon scored the lone goal for the Starfires (0-2), who suffered an 9-0 loss to Norwell in their season opener on Tuesday. Simon took four shots on goal, and Morgan Haines and Samantha Sprunger added two apiece.
Brittney Chalfant had two goals and two assists for Blackhawk Christian, and Corinne Barker also scored twice. Claire Freeborn, Sidney Clay, Alex Seabeck and Rebecca Kanpol each added one goal.
Alaina Johnston faced 32 shots on goal, saving 25 of them.

Boys tennis loses
FORT WAYNE — South Adams suffered its second straight shutout to open the season, falling 5-0 Thursday to the host Bishop Luers Knights.
The Starfires (0-2) pushed two of the matches to three sets, with freshman Dexter Miller falling just short at No. 2 singles. He won his opening set, but went on to lose 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 to sophomore Eric Woehnker.
Jared Rife and Dylan Pierce dropped their No. 1 doubles match 6-0, 4-6, 6-0 to Sam Scheer and Mark Hellinger. In the other doubles match, Cole Myers and Blake Baumer lost 6-0, 6-1 to Collin Hire and Luke Scheer.

Brayden Myers suffered a 6-1, 6-3 defeat to Isaiah Klotz at No. 1 singles, and Landon Lehman fell 6-2, 6-4 to David Shank at No. 3 singles.
South Adams dropped the junior varsity match 5-0.

Boys soccer blanked
BERNE — The Starfires are still looking for their first goal of the season after losing 5-0 Thursday to the visiting Bellmont Braves.
South Adams (0-2), which lost 2-0 to New Haven in Monday’s season opener, managed just four shots on goal against their county rival. Dustin Dellinger took two of those shots, and John O’Donnell and Cameron Lengerich each added one.
Bellmont (2-0) spread out its scoring, with Sam Doan, Conner Martz, Andy Hess, Holland Herman and Cameron Bienz posting one goal apiece.
L.J. Moser made 12 saves for the Starfires. Jeremy Fuhrman finished with five for the Braves in the shutout.
