Breastfeeding coalition beginning
Taking Note
Representatives from Purdue Extension; Women, Infants and Children program (WIC); Jay County Hospital and Healthy Families, under the guidance of State Breastfeeding Coordinator Tina Cardarelli, have formed a support group to help promote breastfeeding and to inform women of all the resources available to those who breastfeed or are considering breastfeeding.
The Jay County Breastfeeding Support Coalition will have a dessert reception on Thursday, May 28, at 6 p.m. in Jay County Hospital conference rooms A and B. Tina Cardarelli will speak at 7 p.m.
The newly formed coalition will share its mission for Jay County and provide information about a new state law.
Graduates
Sarah Dirksen, Portland, received a bachelor of science degree in nursing from the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne.

Joshua Allen Eal graduated, Cum Laude, from Wabash College in Crawfordsville with a bachelor of arts degree in English.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Eal, Portland.
Honor Society
Rachel McKee, Portland, was recently inducted in the honor society Phi Kappa Lambda; Alpha Chi Chapter at Anderson University.
Jay grad
Kyle Prifogle, a 2005 graduate of Jay County High School, was recently inducted into the Wabash College chapter of Phi Beta Kappa National Honorary Society.
Prifogle also received the George Lewes Mackintosh Fellow during the annual Wabash College Student Awards and Honors program. It is to be used for graduate or professional school. Prifogle is majoring in mathematics at Wabash and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alan Prifogle, Ridgeville.
Attends workshop
Carol Stocker and Sandy Bridges, of the Jay County Humane Society, recently attended a Petfinder.com workshop in Indianapolis hosted by Indianapolis Animal and Control and sponsored by PETCO. Petfinder.com is an online database of homeless pets.
The workshop included fundraising and marketing strategies to increase adoptability of animals.
Essay winner
Kaylee Inman, a student in Mrs. Swingley's third grade class at General Shanks Elementary, was the Northeast District winner for the Association of Indiana Counties for her essay "Going Green."
She was one of six winners in the state and was invited to read her essay at the Northeast Indiana District meeting held at the Auburn Cord Duisenberg Museum in Auburn, where she was presented a check for $100 from STAR Financial Bank.
Kaylee is the daughter of Aaron and Kristy Inman, Portland, and the granddaughter of Jack and Kathleen Inman, Dunkirk.[[In-content Ad]]
