After finding the back of the net seven times in their previous game, the Patriots couldn't get anything on the scoreboard Tuesday.
Jay County High School's girls soccer team suffered a 1-0 defeat on their home field to the Blackford Bruins.
Following a scoreless first half, Blackford got on the board 11 minutes into the second. The Patriots (2-9-1) were held scoreless despite 12 shots on goal, eight for Brianne Wellman and four by Kaelee Keller.
Jay County has split its last four games, defeating Anderson Highland 5-1 and Muncie Southside 7-0 while losing 2-0 to Yorktown and 1-0 to the Bruins. It had given up at least two goals, and an average of 4.4, its first eight games, but has allowed just four total goals in its last four games.
Coach Ed Wellman complimented his defense, including freshman goalie Mollie May, who made a save on a penalty kick against Blackford, and first-year defenders LeAnn Horn, a freshman, and Erica Butcher, a junior. May finished with 14 saves.[[In-content Ad]]
