Bruins defeat SA

HARTFORD CITY - Runs have not come easily for the Starfires.

In their last two games, the South Adams High School baseball team has managed just three runs. It lost 3-1 Monday to the host Blackford Bruins, and Wizard's Stadium in Fort Wayne Saturday by a 6-2 score to the Leo Lions.

Blackford put up single runs in each of the first two innings Monday and rode an impressive pitching effort to the win. South Adams managed just two hits, including a double by Caleb Armenta, who scored in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Caleb Sprunger.

Andrew Smith took the loss, allowing three runs - two earned - on seven hits and one walk. He struck out four batters.

Kyle DeArmond suffered Saturday's loss as he gave up six runs on 10 hits and two walks in 5 2/3 innings. Daniel Dynes drove in both runs with a triple in the sixth inning, and DeArmond had a double.

Gray places 3rd

WINCHESTER - Adam Gray turned in a third-place finish Saturday to lead the Jay County boys golf team to a fourth-place finish at the Winchester Invitational.

The Patriots finished with a score of 343, 10 behind third-place Muncie Burris. Richmond and Park Tudor each posted scores of 312, with Richmond winning the tie-breaker for first place.

Gray, who won the South Adams Invitational a week earlier, shot 37 on the front nine and 39 on the back for a 4-over-par 76. He finished four strokes back of medalist John Mike Black of Park Tudor.

Adam Horn played a steady round for an 84, and Drew Houck came in at 89.

Isaac Poole completed the team score with a 94, and Chase Wellman shot 106.

SA softball falls

BERNE - The South Adams softball team managed just a pair of hits Monday in a 6-0 loss to the visiting Leo Lions.

Ashton Morgan took just her second loss of the year, giving up six runs - five earned - on five hits and four walks. She struck out seven batters.

Leo scored four times in the first inning to take control and added two more in the third. The Starfires dropped to 11-3 overall and 1-1 in the Allen County Athletic Conference.

The lone hits for SAHS came from Kayla Minnich and Chelsea Roop.

Judan places 2nd

Portland's Judan Judo finished second this weekend as it hosted the Indiana Open State Championships at Jay County High School.

Ten athletes from Judan finished first in the meet, which included 240 competitors representing 31 clubs from six states.

Kindra Bickel, Kelsi Bostic, Kelsey Brockman, Caleb Culy, Nathan Drumm, Casey Kenney, Garrett Mann, Abigail Muhlenkamp, Nathan Parr and Nicholas Patterson all finished first.

Runners-up from Judan were Chiann Cupples, Seth Drumm, Hai Hong, Betsi Gagle, Chance McConnell, Isabelle Minnich, Gabrielle Minnich and Brandon Parr.

Placing third were Culy, Gagle, Eric Devoe, Logan Drumm, Nathaniel Fodrea, Adam Haffner, Heng Hong and Benjamin Muhlenkamp.
