The Jay County High School softball team gave up seven runs in the first two innings Friday in a 10-2 loss the visiting Blackford Bruins.
Nikka Chaney suffered the loss, giving up 10 runs — seven earned — on 12 hits and three walks. She struck out five batters.
Katlin Petro powered the Patriots (6-10) by going 2-for-2 with a walk, a run and a stolen base. Kendra Younger,  Ashley Motter and Chaney each added one hit apiece, and Randa Gillespie and Chelsea Tighe had RBIs.

Jay golfers split
The Patriots finished just a couple of strokes short of a double win Friday, posting a score of 164 at Portland Golf Club. The Winchester Golden Falcons won the meet with a 163, and the Monroe Central Golden Bears were third in the evenly-matched group with a 170.
Justen Keller set the pace for Jay County on the front nine at PGC with a 40. He birdied the 335-yard, par-4 first hole and added three pars in his round.
Evan Mathias also had a birdie on the first hole to go along with a pair of pars for a 41, and Drew Houck notched three pars as he also shot 41. Evan Ryder completed the team score with a 42.
Ritchie Carducci shot 45, and Austin Mann added a 47.

SA softball falls
BERNE — South Adams scored its lone run in its final at bat Friday in an 11-1, five-inning loss to the visiting Snider Panthers.
Snider had a 2-0 lead before putting the game away with eight runs in the top of the third inning. Lily Taing suffered the loss as she gave up 10 runs — nine earned — on 10 hits and four walks.
Jennifer Miller and Brittany Pugsley each had a hit for the Starfires (3-19), and Brandy Rogers scored the lone run.[[In-content Ad]]
