Bruins, Raiders beat Jay County

HARTFORD CITY — With no scores in the 40s, the Patriots couldn’t keep up.
Jay County High School’s girls golf team took a couple of losses Tuesday as it finished with a score of 224 at Ki-Ann Golf Course. The host Blackford Bruins won the three-team match with a 201, and the Southern Wells Raiders were second at 214.
Alysia Fennig closed her round with a par on the 318-yard, par-4 ninth hole. She also had four bogeys to the Patriots with a 52.
Megan Lefebvre of Southern Wells earned medalist honors with a 46, and Zoie Mann paced Blackford with a 47.
Freshman Abby Saxman had two bogeys as she followed Fennig for JCHS with a 55. Whitney Gray shot 57, and Alissa Culy rounded out the team score with a 60.
Maddison Baughn shot 61.

Boys tennis falls
MONROE — Jay County dropped to 4-7 Tuesday as it lost 5-0 to the host Adams Central Flying Jets.

Garhett Blackford played the closest match of the evening for the Patriots at No. 3 singles, where he lost 7-5, 6-3 to Eric Ripley. In other singles action, Landry Inman fell by a shutout to Nathan Barger at No. 1, and Josh Martin lost 6-2, 6-1 to Jacob Weil at No. 2.
Josh Lykins and Zach Pryor dropped the No. 1 doubles match 6-2, 6-2 against Isaac Luginbill and Conner Lengerich. Jake Schwieterman and Evan Mathias lost 6-1, 6-4 to Pierce Harris and Ben Kaehr at No. 2 doubles.
Nick Leuthold, Kody Degler and Alex Krieg picked up junior varsity victories for JCHS.

Eagles beat Wes-Del
GASTON — Justin Crouch and Cole Stigleman led the West Jay Middle School football teams to victory Tuesday. Crouch threw for two touchdowns and ran for another in the eighth grade team’s 32-0 victory over the host Wes-Del Warriors, and Stigleman had two scores in seventh grade squad’s 28-6 win.
Crouch tossed TD passes of 18 and 8 yards to Andrew Trewyn in the second quarter and ran for a 4-yard score in the fourth. Bowen May added a 4-yard TD run as he picked up 54 yard on nine carries for the WJMS eighth graders (2-0), and Jacob Geesaman, Tyler Jester, Crouch and Trewyn each made five tackles.
Stigleman scored TDs for the seventh grade Eagles (1-0-1) on a 55-yard run and a 40-yard punt return. Mitchell Ferguson also had a 50-yard punt return for a TD, Holton Hill scored on a 14-yard run and Garrett Rodgers led the defense with six tackles.[[In-content Ad]]
