Brunswick 7th in DIII regional
Local roundup
TROY, Ohio - The chance at a state berth for the Indians will ride on the shoulders of a senior.
Holly Brunswick, a Fort Recovery High School sophomore, placed seventh in the high jump Wednesday on day one of the Division III regional track meet hosted by Troy, falling two inches short of a trip to the state finals. The competition continues Friday, with senior Tina Roessner running in a pair of events.
Brunswick, who placed sixth in the regional last season, was one of four competitors to finish at 5 feet even. She won the tiebreaker to take seventh place, but only the top four athletes in each regional event earn a trip to the state finals.
Roessner will have her chance Friday in the 3,200-meter run, in which she is seeded sixth after winning the Minster district title in 12-minutes, 16.82 seconds. The No. 4 seed is Allison Roeth of Houston at 11:30.15.
In the 1,600 run, Roessner had a district time of 5:39.99 and is seeded ninth.
Blowers places third
MUNCIE - Jay County resident Steve Blowers pushed his way up the point standings Saturday at the Muncie Dragway.
Blowers turned in a third-place finish in the Pro division behind Mike Logan of Hartford City at Denny Wilder of Celina, Ohio.
He earned 70 points, moving into a six-way tie for sixth place in a field of nearly 60 drivers.
Kohler keys Inman
Andy Kohler kicked off a four-run fifth inning that led Inman U-Loc to a 5-2 victory Wednesday over PG-14 in Portland Junior League Rookie baseball.
In the other Rookie game, MainSource Bank clobbered Portland Optimist 27-5. Patriots Sportswear defeated Stoll and Stutzman 12-7, and EOC beat Crossroads Financial Federal Credit Union 12-7 in Super Major softball.
Inman trailed 2-1 when Kohler led off the fifth inning with a single. He came around to score the first of his team's four runs in the inning. Gaven Hare also had a hit and a run for Inman.
Levi Long and Zach McKinney led the big offensive evening for MainSource, each finishing with a single and three runs. Tasya Smith went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs for Patriot Sportswear, and Alyssa Bluhm paced EOC with a single and three runs.[[In-content Ad]]
