Brunswick homer lifts FR

VERSAILLES, Ohio — Kendra Brunswick’s extra-innings home run lifted the Fort Recovery High School softball team to victory Thursday, 5-4 in eight innings, in its Midwest Athletic Conference opener against the Versailles Tigers.
Kendra Brunswick’s solo shot cleared the fence in left field in the top of the eighth, and pitcher Andi Sutter held Versailles in the bottom of the inning for the win. The Tigers had scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game.
Shelby Brunswick went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for the Indians (4-5), and Kendra Brunswick finished with two hits, a run and an RBI. Olivia Schiweterman and Taylor Guggenbiller each had a single and a double, with Schwieterman scoring a run and Guggenbiller driving one in. Janelle Schwieterman added a double, a run and an RBI.
The junior varsity team lost 4-0 to Versailles.

SA track tops two
UNION CITY — Trisha Myers racked up three victories Thursday as the South Adams girls track team scored 84 points to defeat Wapahani (34) and Union City (25).
The boys team tallied 90 points to beat Wapahani (42) and the host Indians (24).
Myers turned in a pair of wins in the hurdles, taking the 100-meter event in 17.4 seconds and the 300 in 55.1. She was also first with a  leap of 4 feet, 8 inches in the high jump.
Joel Schmidt matched Myers’ effort in the hurdles for the Starfire boys, winning the 110 in 17.4 and the 300 in 45.8. Chaise Moore took the shot put at 36 feet, 3 inches and the 200 dash in 23.9.
Other victories for the girls team came from Jenna Smith (1,600 run), Kara Haines (400 dash), Kristen Muselman (800 run), Sawyer Shane (3,200 run) and Adrianna Teeter (long jump). Josh Ehr (100 dash), Eric Isch (3,200 run) and Evan Johnston (discus) added wins for the boys.

Starfire softball falls

NEW HAVEN — The South Adams softball team rallied to within a run after falling behind 5-0, but fell short in a 7-4 loss to the New Haven Bulldogs.
Maizy Switzer went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI for the Starfires (1-3), who scored three times in the third inning and once in the fourth to close the gap to 5-4. But they didn’t score again, and New Haven tacked on two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Alexis Ford added a 3-for-3 effort with a run, and Alyssa Bluhm singled and scored a run.
Lily Taing took the loss, giving up four runs — three earned — on one hit and three walks in one inning.

Shawnee tops FR baseball
The Fort Recovery High School baseball team slipped to 1-8 Thursday with a 16-1, five-inning loss to the Shawnee Indians.
Elijah Kahlig took the loss for FRHS as he gave up 11 runs — 10 earned — on 11 hits and two walks in three innings. Shawnee scored six times in the second inning and five each in the third and fourth.
Hayden Pottkotter finished 2-for-3 and drove in the lone Fort Recovery run in the top of the fifth inning. Jacob Muhlenkamp also had two hits, and Alex Thien had a hit, a walk and a run.

SA tennis loses
BERNE — South Adams’ girls tennis team dropped all three singles matches Thursday in a 4-1 loss to the visiting Norwell Knights.
Lindsey Graber and Kassy Potts bounced back after losing an opening-set tiebreaker to defeat Rachel Phillips and Taylor Sprinkle 6-7, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Abbi Campbell and Holly Taylor dropped the No. 2 doubles match 6-4, 6-2 to Addie Williams and Jessica Bupright.
In singles action, Mallory Eicher dropped a three-setter 6-3, 5-7, 6-0 to Lyndsey Havener at No. 3, Alex Fox fell 6-1, 6-4 to Eden Chaney at No. 2 and Aine O’Donnell lost 6-0, 6-0 to Brittany Barger at No. 1.
