Brunswick leads FR cross country

MINSTER, Ohio - Marissa Brunswick was the only Indian to finish in the top 10 Tuesday at the Minster Invitational.

The Fort Recovery girls, led by Brunswick's seventh-place effort, were fourth in the five-team field with 104 points. The Tribe boys scored 127 points to place fifth.

The host Wildcats won both the girls and boys competitions.

Brunswick led the Indians with her time of 20 minutes, 59 seconds and Nicole Heitkamp as next in 22nd at 23:08. Abby Huelskamp was 25th in 23:15 ahead of Samantha Tobe (33rd - 24:39) and Alexis Sutter (36th - 24:54).

Ryan Heitkamp led the Tribe boys in 18th at 18:52, and Calvin Kaiser was 21st in 19:42. Joining them were Nathan Fullenkamp (23rd - 19:55), Marshall Hull (39th - 21:48) and Zach Guggenbiller (48th - 23:01).

Josh Pohl won the junior high race in 11:46 and Derek Shutter placed third to power the Indian boys to a runner-up finish behind Minster. Fort Recovery's girls also finished second to the Wildcats with Jessica Vogel leading the way with a time of 13:21 for fifth place.

Freshman spikers win

Fort Recovery's freshman volleyball team improved to 7-3 with a 25-16, 25-20 win over Van Wert.

Chelsea Pottkotter led the Indians' to victory with nine points, two kills and a dig. Heather Vaughn scored 11 points, and Kelsey Fiely had four kills and three digs.

Wildcats tops MS

MINSTER, Ohio - The Fort Recovery middle school volleyball teams both fell Tuesday to the Minster Wildcats. The eighth grade team lost 25-11, 25-18 and the seventh graders suffered a 25-13, 25-20 defeat.

Ashley Homan paced the eighth graders (0-6) with four points, three digs and a kill. Sam Florence scored five points, and Lexi Schmitz had four points and a block.

Haley Knapke had three points and three kills for the seventh grade Indians (1-5). Emilie Sheridan scored six points, and Makayla Grover added five assists.[[In-content Ad]]
