The Patriot girls lost for the first time this season, falling 77-46 Thursday to the visiting Bulldogs. The boys squad also lost, 90-33.
Abigail Johnson (1,600-meter run), Emi Minnich (3,200 run), Abbi Dunlavy (800 run) and Amber Huelskamp (400 dash) picked up individual wins for the JCHS girls. Morgan Brown and Mayson LeMaster finished behind Huelskamp to sweep the top three spots.
The girls team also won the 4x400 and 4x800 relays.
Tasya Smith and Emma Laux placed second in the 100 and 200 dash respectively. Malarie Houck (100 and 300 hurdles) and Ciera Barcus (long jump and high jump) both earned a pair of third-place finishes.
For the Jay County boys, Andrew Eley won the shot put and discus, and Matt Blackford (100 dash) and Zane Shreve (110 hurdles) also placed first.
Aaron Neal, J.D. Mangas and Shreve also added top three finishes.

JC tops Southside
MUNCIE — Morgan Kaufman won her first match of the season Thursday and the No. 2 doubles team kept rolling as the Jay County girls tennis team beat the Muncie Southside Rebels, 3-2.
Kaufman beat Kelley Townsend in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2, to get her first win of the season.
Faith Parr and Emily Westgerdes teamed up at No. 2 doubles to beat Kaylee Jones and Taylor Pinnick 6-3, 6-0 to extend their unbeaten season.
Kyra Braun also won for the Patriots at No. 3 singles, defeating Beyza Orazova 6-1, 6-2.
At No. 1 singles, Jessica Kerrigan wasn’t able to win a game against Becca Holowell, losing 6-0, 6-0.
Sydney Bost and Shawna Miller lost at No. 1 doubles, 7-6, 6-3 to Kacie Johnson and Becky Mann.
The Patriot junior varsity squad beat the Rebels 8-0. McKayla Ronald, Kristen Ireland, Michelle Wellman, Francine Muhlenkamp and Katy Smeltzer all won their singles matches.
Abby Reier teamed up with Abby Saxman and Kendra Bickel joined Megan Johnson to win their doubles matches.

Mathias medals
BLUFFTON — Evan Mathias shot a 42 to earn match medalist honors, helping the Jay County boys golf team to a 187-234 win over the Bluffton Tigers at Timber Ridge Golf Course.
Mathias shot even on the par-4 third and ninth holes, and birdied the par-5 fifth to lead the Patriots, who played the first of three regular-season matches on their sectional course.
Jay Houck recovered after a seven on the first hole and shot par or bogey on seven of the next eight holes. His round of 45 from the No. 4 spot was the second-best score for Jay County.
Zach Fullenkamp and Kyler Hudson shot identical rounds of 50 to round out the Patriots’ team score.
Graham Haines posted a 52.
The junior varsity team lost to the Tigers 227-234, with Nick Hayden posting a 54 as the top score for Jay County.
Eight-run third beats Jay
MUNCIE — For the second straight game, the Patriot baseball team gave up eight runs in an inning.
Again, Jay County was not able to recover.
The Muncie Central Bearcats scored eight runs in the third inning Thursday to beat the Patriots 10-0 in five innings.
 Sam Cavanaugh, Branson Koons and Jordan Poore combined for five hits and four RBIs for Muncie Central.
Keenan James had two hits, including a double, and Toby McCallister and Levi Long both smacked two-base hits for the Patriots.
Jason Houston and Kyle Selvey both had singles.
Selvey struck out three and held the Bearcats hitless in 1 1/3 innings of relief of Houston, who took the loss. Houston allowed all 10 runs, but only two were earned.
Jay County fell to 1-5 on the season and travel to Winchester at 9 a.m. Saturday to take on the Golden Falcons. 

WJ tops Cowan
MUNCIE — Wyatt Geesaman won two events Thursday as the West Jay Middle School track team defeated host Cowan, 80-21.
Geesaman won both the 100- and 200-meter hurdles. Cole Stigleman (100 dash), Matthew Paquette (1,600 run), Nathan Hamilton (200 dash), Blade McEwen (shot put), Tyler Lowe (discus) and Mitch Ferguson (long jump) also picked up victories for the Eagles.
Finishing second for the Eagles were Max Moser (400 dash, 200 dash and long jump), Nick Neal (110 hurdles and 200 hurdles), Holton Hill (800 run), Stigleman (shot put), McEwen (discus) and Ferguson (100 dash).
Koby Bennett, Dustin Minnich, Jordan Stultz, Hill, Neal, Raines and Paquette all earned third place finishes for West Jay.[[In-content Ad]]
