Caffee home run powers South Adams (05/18/05)

Local roundup

BERNE — No matter where he goes in the order, Justin Caffee does his share of damage.

Moved to the leadoff spot Tuesday, Caffee hit a home run to power the South Adams baseball team to a 10-6 victory over the Adams Central Jets.

Caffee racked up two hits, two runs and four RBIs, and helped spark a six-run Starfire second inning.

Mike Farris added two runs and two RBIs, and Will Grandlinard doubled and scored twice. Grandlinard earned the win, allowing just two hits in four scoreless innings.

Cards trounce Tribe

NEW BREMEN, Ohio — Tournament play ended abruptly for the Fort Recovery softball team Tuesday with a 12-2, five-inning loss to the New Bremen Cardinals in the district semifinals.

New Bremen scored seven times in the second inning and took advantage of eight Indian errors. The Cardinals, who lost 2-0 to the Tribe during the regular season, built a 10-0 lead before Fort Recovery (13-9) finally scored twice in the fourth inning.

Tiff Gaerke and Alyssa Tobe each pitched in the defeat, but only five of the 12 runs scored against them were earned. They combined to allow seven hits.

Ciera Rammel had two of the Indians’ four hits. Brenda Rindler and Renee Evers each had one hit, and Kelsie Will and Gaerke each scored a run.

Amber Melick allowed four runs — three earned — on six hits to take the loss as the Starfires dropped to 9-10. She walked two batters and struck out four.

Lacy Rhoades was 2-for-3 with a run. Brooke Fox singled and scored the other SAHS run.[[In-content Ad]]
