Caffee tosses no-hitter against the Hawks (05/23/07)

BERNE - None of the Hawks could touch Andrew Caffee Tuesday.

The South Adams starter tossed a no-hitter, leading the Starfire baseball team to a 13-0, five-inning victory over Harding.

Caffee dominated the Hawks, striking out six batters in five innings.

Meanwhile the SAHS offense went wild after a scoreless first inning. It scored six times in the second inning, four in the third and three in the fourth to put the Hawks away.

Daniel Bollenbacher led the Starfire offense, going 2-for-2 with a double, a triple, two runs and an RBI. Brent Habegger added two hits, including a triple, and three RBIs.

Jordan Steiner, Otis Mitchel and Ethan Sharp each scored twice, and Tyler Neuenschwander had a couple of RBIs.

Fort holds spring awards

FORT RECOVERY - Fort Recovery High School held its spring athletic awards ceremony Tuesday with 21 athletes, including 10 softball players, earning All-Midwest Athletic Conference academic honors.

Making the All-MAC Academic Team from the Tribe softball team were Sandra Sudhoff, Lauren Wenning, Lori Osterholt, Kyla Metzger, Carla Guggenbiller, Beth May, Kinsey Wenning, Joanna Snyder, Ashley Grube and Heather Schmackers.

The girls track team came away with six recipients of the award. They were: Holly Stein, Sam Bihn, Anne Koesters, Tina Roessner, Rachel Tobe and Mindy Vogel.

Tony Diller, Troy Dilworth and David Schmitt earned the honor from the baseball team, and Wes Kahlig and Matt Vagedes picked up the award for the boys track team.

All-MAC academic honorees must be at least a sophomore in standing, earn a varsity letter and hold a grade point average of 3.3 or higher.

Winning Indian Award in each sport were Stein for girls track, Diller for baseball, Sudhoff for softball and Eric Lamm for boys track.

Norwell tops SA

GENEVA - South Adams' boys golf team finished 30 strokes back of the Norwell Knights Tuesday, falling 165-195.

Norwell was led by Drew Imel, who shot a 2-under-par 33, and Brandon Bennett with a 1-over-par 36.

Phil Goodwin had the top SAHS score at 40. He was followed by Ryan Moser at 50, and Landyn Waugh with a 51.

Jay Schwartz and Thurman Pursley each finished at 54.[[In-content Ad]]
