Cancer donations announced (1/14/05)

The Jay County Cancer Society has announced its donors for the months of October, November and December.

Giving gifts in October were Crown City Cruisers and Pizza Hut. Ione Glasgow gave in memory of Bill Betz; Sam Schwartz, Debra Schwartz and Helen Schwartz all gave in memory of Dan Yohe.

LIBRARY EVENTS

Winter reading programs will begin at Jay County Public Library on Monday, Jan. 17, for adults, teens and children. Fill out an entry form for each book you read and you may win a prize.

The library will have a pizza tasting and game night on Tuesday, Jan. 18, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for teens in grades six through 12.

CAFO CONFERENCE

A videoconference on “Complying with the New CAFO (concencrated animal feeding operation) Rule” can be viewed at the Jay County Public Library on Thursday, Feb. 10, at 6:30 p.m.

Registration deadline for free materials is Friday, Jan. 21. After the deadline, the cost of materials will be $25. For more information or to register, call the Purdue Extension Office at (260) 726-4707.

NOMINATIONS

Nominations for Heroes of the Heartland Celebration are due Saturday, Jan. 15.

The nominees should be individuals who have distinguished themselves in the performance of an emergency or public service. The categories are emergency medical services, firefighting services, law enforcement services and emergency management services. One person will be chosen from each category.

One good samaratian will also be chosen from the counties of Blackford, Delaware, Jay and Randolph.

Nomination forms may be obtained at www.redcross-hhc.org.

The third annual Heroes of the Heartland Celebration will be Thursday, Feb. 24.
