Cancer donors announced (5/17/05)

The Jay County Cancer Society recently announced its donors for January, February and March.

Giving gifts in January were United Way of Jay County, Elizabeth Starbuck, Woman’s Life Insurance Society and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Clutter.

Giving in memory of Jacqueline Masters were Cletes Rines, Mrs. Dempsey Arnold and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Arnold. Giving in memory of Asha Bodle were Beta Sigma Phi Xi Delta Delta. Giving in memory of Helen Corle was Douglas Charles. Giving in memory of Dolores Schmit were an anonymous gift, Douglas Schmit, Robert and Esther Theurer, Richard and Shirley Ramey, Don and Cindy Denney and Paul Minnich. Donating in February in memory of Marjorie Starr were Capi Bubp, Gladys Hardy and Michelle Laux. Giving in memory of Charles Harshman was Jeannette Loy and John Theurer. Giving in memory of Doris Vester was the Stout family. Giving in memory of Vickie Jarrell were Paul and Diane Copeland, Leonard Herman, Douglas, Teresa, Jordan, Lindsey and Kaitlyn Heckler and Gretchen Baumgartner.

Giving in March in memory of Marjorie Starr was Marjorie Collins and family, Lewis Gillespie. Giving in memory of Ruth Rash was Edna Stout and family. Giving in memory of Helen Corle was Lewis Gillespie. Giving a gift was the Goodrich Family Foundation and United Way of Central Indiana. Giving in memory of David Parks were Shirley Ooten, Scott Evans family and an anonymous gift. Giving in memory of Mary Emma Young was Jim and Edy Wood and family.

Also giving in March in memory of Ernest Ontrop were Mr. and Mrs. Dave Kaiser, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Bailey and Mary Studer. Giving in memory of Rebecca Possel were Ruth Siegrist, Ruby Fowler, Howard Hoagland, Aleta Butler, Tom and Wanetta Millett and Larry and Judy Stoner. Giving in memory of Jeanette Davis were Janet Pensinger and family, Lisa Belda, Ron and Mary Ellen Bickel, Herbert Stratton, Ross and Dorothy Timmons, Diana Franz, Mary Ann McGeath and Jim Phillips.

Graduated

Sara Carreno, daughter of Pastor Fred and Juanita Grenier of Portland, recently graduated from Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Ill. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Scholarships awarded

Two college scholarships have been awarded which were made possible from many small contributions of hundreds of local residents of Geneva.

Winning Geneva Proud scholarships are Erica Steiner and David Beeler.

Erica is the daughter of Kerry and Tami Steiner of Geneva. She is graduating eighth in her class and is active in tennis, cheerleading and 4-H. Her plans are to attend Ivy Tech to become an office assistant.

David’s parents are William and Marilyn Beeler, Geneva. He will graduate second in his class and has participated in jazz, marching and pep bands. He was also in track and golf. He has been accepted at Wright State and Purdue Universities and plans to be a materials engineer.

Dean’s list

Gale A. McAbee has made the dean’s list for the summer and fall quarter of 2004 at Columbus State Community College in Columbus, Ohio. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Cedric McAbee of Portland.

Honor roll

Nathan F. Jetter has earned honor roll status for the winter term at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dean G. Jetter, Portland.
