Cancer society names donors (01/08/08)
Taking Note
The Jay County Cancer Society recently named those who made donations in October, November and December.
A gift in October was given by the Jay County High School Volleyball Fundraiser; Mike and Carolyn Hosier gave in memory of Robert Quadrozzi; Capi Bubp gave in memory of Millie Ludy and United Way of Delaware County gave a gift.
Giving in memory of Raymond Breymier in November were Dick and Frankie Kunkle and Family, Robert and Inez Kunkle and Larry and Alice Paxson. Alice Paxson and Charlotte Chadwick gave in memory of Sue Livingston.
Giving in memory of Linda Betz in December were John Pyle, Ron and Pat Brown, Annabelle Parrett, Dick and Frankie Kunkle, Luke Brackman, Bill and Becky Bailey and Ernie and Lisa Stevens Family.
Giving gifts in December were Milo and Renee Miller, David and Jani Littler and Jeff and Emily Dill. December students
West Jay Middle School recently named its Students of the Month for December.
In sixth grade was Ashley Motter, the daughter of Jeremy and Melany Hollopeter.
In seventh grade was Clayton Scott, the son of Paul and Evelyn Scott.
In eighth grade was Caz Lawhorn, the daughter of April Dye.
Arts Place
Scott Anderson New Paintings "A Sequence of Three" will be on display in the Hugh N. Ronald Gallery at Arts Place in Portland Jan. 11 through March 3.
The sequence includes Primordial Trees and Fruits, The Vowel Series and Bush Wars.
Arts Place is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m.
The display is sponsored by Old National Bank, Ohio Arts Council, The Portland Foundation and Indiana Arts Commission.
Medication safety
The program "Basic Guidelines to Using Medication Safely" will be held Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 1 p.m. at Jay County Public Library in Portland.
Janet Stafford, Madison County Extension Educator, will be the guest speaker.

Ice Carving Festival
The Third Annual Columbia City Ice Carving Festival will be held Jan. 26 and 27 in downtown Columbia City.
Blocks of ice will be carved on Saturday, donated from more than 50 businesses. The carvings will begin at 8 a.m. on the courthouse lawn or in front of business locations.
On Sunday 12 carvers will compete in a three hour carving competition from noon until 3 p.m. at the courthouse.

Dean's list
Dane Rowles, a 2007 graduate of Jay County High School, was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Ball State University. He is the son of Darry and Cheryl Rowles, Portland.
New president
Thomas L. Farris, Muncie, has been elected President of the Ball State University Alumni Association for 2008.
