Jay County residents will have the opportunity to meet candidates running for various offices on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. at Jay County Hospital.
Meet Your Candidates Night will be held in conference rooms A and B. District 33 State Representative candidates Ron Liggett (Democrat) and Bill Davis (Republican), along with local candidates, will be on-hand to state their views on important issues and answer questions.
The session is sponsored by the Portland Area Chamber of Commerce.
TOP ENTREPRENEUR
The president and CEO of Red Gold has been named one of Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneurs of the Year.
Brain Reichart was chosen under the industry category of manufacturing. He began working for his family’s company in 1972, when it only had 10 full-time employees and one plant in Orestes. The company has since grown to three manufacturing facilities, including one in Geneva, and a distribution center. Red Gold now employs more than 1,200 people full-time.
“I’ve always been driven to think of a better way of doing things,” Reichart said in an interview for Indiana Business magazine.
WATER DONATED
Indiana Electric Cooperatives, including Jay County REMC, recently donated 1,450 cases of bottled water to victims of Hurricane Ivan in Alabama.
The water was distributed to local residents and emergency personnel.
IMPACT AWARDS
The deadline to nominate an Ohio city or community organization for a Community Impact Award is Nov. 4.
Projects must have been completed between July 2003 and August 2004, have made a major contribution to the community and be located in the Dominion service area.
Winning communities will receive a portion of $60,000 in grant money. To enter, submit a brief summary of the project to Community Impact Awards, Dominion, P.O. Box 759, Cleveland, Ohio, 44101. For more information visit www.dom.com.
