Thurman purchased the building in January which for more than a decade had been home to the Decatur Wal-Mart store.

Head retires,

Wells withdraws

Following in the city of Bluffton's footsteps, Wells County commissioners this week unanimously voted to alter their relationship with the Wells County Chamber of Commerce's economic development arm.

The commissioners' vote came just days after Garry Jones, the CEO of the Chamber and Economic Development Council, announced his retirement and weeks after the city of Bluffton voted to end its relationship with the council.

The head of the Wells County Chamber of Commerce announced his retirement last Friday, amid growing discussion on the role of the chamber's Economic Development Council.

Garry Jones has been the chief executive officer for the Chamber and Economic Development Council for the past six years and intended to retire in 2007.

His decision came just days before the Wells County Commissioners were to discuss a proposal to re-evaluate the county's relationship with the EDC.

The change came after months of rumors swirling around recent contacts with the South Dakota-based Broin Co., which recently proposed a second ethanol plant for Wells County.

It was rumored that Jones had been less than helpful with Broin when it made initial inquiries into locating in Wells County

Jones had been an initial investor in the first ethanol plant, to be operated by Indiana Bio-Energy.[[In-content Ad]]
