Cardinal rally ends Fort's year (02/24/04)

The New Bremen Cardinals’ furious rally Monday ended the season for the Fort Recovery freshman girls basketball team.

The Indians led at the end of each of the first three quarters, but fell to New Bremen 33-32 in the Midwest Athletic Conference tournament.

Fort Recovery (7-4) jumped to a 10-4 lead after one period. The advantage slipped to three points at halftime, but the Indians seemingly took control with a 28-20 lead with one period to play.

However, the Cardinals came storming back, outscoring the Tribe 13-4 in the final period for the victory.

Lauren Wenning paced Fort Recovery in its final game with 13 points. Abby Niekamp finished with nine points and seven rebounds.

Eagles lost first

The West Jay sixth grade boys basketball team took its first loss of the season Monday, a 38-31 defeat at the hands of Hartford City. West Jay also lost the B team game, 48-22.

West Jay’s A team was ahead by four at halftime, but managed just two points in the third quarter as Hartford City jumped ahead. The Eagles managed 12 points in the fourth quarter as they tried to rally, but Hartford City put up 16 to take the win.

Josh Beaty led West Jay (2-1) with eight points. Taylor Farmer had seven points, and Willis Mayfield scored six.

The B team got nine points from Dillion Easton and six by Michael Masters.

Jay tickets

Advance tickets for Jay County’s boys basketball games Friday at Coldwater and for next week’s Blackford sectional will go on sale Thursday. The Patriots play Tipton in the first round at Blackford Tuesday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets to both events will be available in the JCHS athletics office Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sectional tickets will also be sold Monday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Tuesday, March 2 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Advance tickets for the game against Coldwater are $5 for adults and $3 for students. All tickets at the door will be $5.

Advance sectional tickets are $9 for a pass which covers all sectional games. Single game tickets will cost $5, but will only be available at the door.

Fort tickets

Advance tickets for Fort Recovery’s boys basketball games vs. Minster Friday and at the Coldwater sectional will go on sale Thursday. Fort Recovery opens sectional play against Marion Local Tuesday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets to both events will be available in the high school office Thursday from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Tickets to the Minster game will also be sold in the high school office Friday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and in the middle school office Friday from 8 to 11:30 a.m.

Sectional tickets will be sold in the high school office Friday from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., Monday from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Tuesday, March 2 from 7:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. They will also be sold in the middle school office Friday from 8 to 11:30 a.m.

Advance tickets to the Minster game are $3 for students and $5 for adults. All tickets at the door will be $5.
