Center to hold workshops (03/21/07)
Taking Note
The National Center for Great Lakes Native American Culture, Inc. will hold Spring Arts and Crafts Workshops on Saturday and Sunday at the Women's Building at the Jay County Fairgrounds.
Classes will be taught in historical hand-carved wooden spoons; native plants and their uses in cooking, healing and daily living; corn husk dolls and a Great Lakes Native American culture and history class.
Participants may also work on the dugout canoe, weather permitting.

The next lecture in the NCGLNAC series will be April 14 at 5 p.m. at the Jay County Historical Museum. Sara Wagar, former principal chief of the Piqua Shawnee tribe will discuss Indiana and Ohio Shawnee history.
The last lecture in the series will be May 12 at 5 p.m. at the historical museum. Carol Sue Templin will discuss the life of Maconaquah from her early childhood to her later years as the wife of a deaf man.
The lectures are free and open to the public.
Nominations sought
The Indiana State Medical Association has established the Physician Community Service Award to honor physicians who contribute time and talent to their communities outside of their medical practice.
To be eligible for the award, physicians must be licensed within the state of Indiana; not have received the award before; compiled a record of community service.

Spring seminar
Indiana Farm Bureau Inc. District 4 Spring Family Seminar will be held Thursday, April 12, at Bearcreek Farms in Bryant.
Registration will begin at 6 p.m.; table grace is at 6:30 p.m. and the seminar begins at 7:15 p.m. with Dave Lowe giving the welcome; pledges, devotions and introductions by Helen Witte.
Speakers will be Kent and Joy Tracey and Isabella Chism.
