Central stops Patriots at two (09/30/05)

JCHS girls soccer

MUNCIE — Jay County was looking for its first three-game winning streak of the season. Muncie Central got in the way.

The Bearcats and the visiting Patriots played 29 minutes of scoreless soccer before Central took a lead it would never relinquish in a 4-1 victory.

Vanneisha Ivy, the defending state champion in the 100-meter hurdles, broke the scoreless tie with 11 minutes remaining in the first half. Central (12-1) scored again five minutes into the second half, and then once more four minutes later.

Sophomore Dana Horn tallied the lone goal for the Patriots, knocking the ball through the hands of the Bearcat goalie with 6:29 to play in the game. Her goal cut the deficit for Jay County (5-5-2) to 3-1, but there was no comeback to be had as Central scored two minutes later for the final margin.

Horn and Saffron Redwine shared the team-high of five shots on goal. Abby Schmiesing and Sara Garringer each had three shots as the Patriots totaled 16.

Muncie Central had 14 shots on goal, with Jay County goalie Abby Loy coming up with 10 saves.[[In-content Ad]]
