Various community leaders will be speaking Tuesday about Jay County.
The speakers will be at the Portland Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon, which will be held at noon in Jay County Hospital conference rooms A and B.
The program is entitled "Look What They Are Saying About Jay County."
Cost is $8.
Attends seminar
An area optometrist with offices in Berne and Winchester recently attended a seminar about eye disease treatment.
Dr. Steven DeGroff, of Family Eye Care, visited a one-day seminar on Sept. 12 that featured lectures on retinal disease and current cataract surgery and vision correction.
Woman appointed
A former Bryant business owner has been appointed as a reverse mortgage coordinator in Indiana for Choice One Mortgage Inc.
Virginia Joyner, Marengo, was named to the position with the Illinois company earlier this week. According to a statement from Choice One, she will focus on helping senior citizens in "obtaining federally insured reverse mortgage and programs that pertain to the higher valued houses."
Joyner is the former owner of Jinny's Café in Bryant.
Attend conference
Jay County's coroner and deputy coroners recently attended the Indiana State Coroners Association Annual Conference in Columbus.
Mark Barnett, Jay County coroner, and deputy coroners Amanda Barnett, Paula Bonvillian and Paulette Wagner attended the event, which was held June 23-26.
During the conference, Leslie Cook, Adams County coroner, was named president of the Indiana State Coroners Association.
New HR manager
A new human resources manager has been hired for a local publishing company.
Angie Wheeler, who has more than 20 years experience in human resources, personnal training and administration, was chosen for the Dynamic Resource Group (DRG) position.
She has experience working for Do it Best Corp. and Mattel.
DRG owns House of White Birches Publishing, Berne.
To benefit
This week's grand opening of the new Bob Evans facility in Muncie raised money for the Hoosier Heartland Chapter of the American Red Cross.
For every customer on opening day, which was Monday, the restaurant donated 50 cents to the Red Cross.[[In-content Ad]]
