Pollution control
A 30-day public comment period for an Indiana Department of Environmental Management permit for Saint-Gobain Containers ends today.
The company applied for a permit to allow it to reroute exhaust from furnaces into new pollution-control devices.
The moves are part of an initiative by the company to reduce pollution after reaching a settlement in a case alleging the company violated the Clean Air Act.
Ahead of schedule
Construction work on Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne is a month ahead of schedule.
The $536 hospital complex, which will add more than 400 private rooms, should be completed in November.
Fort Wayne contractor Weigand Construction, which recently completed work on the Jay County Jail expansion project, teamed up with Pepper Construction Group to handle about $365 million of the total contract.
New CEO
Bluffton Regional Medical Center named Brandon Haushalter as the hospital’s new CEO.
He has been serving as interim CEO since January. Before Bluffton, Haushalter served as chief operating officer of St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne.
He holds an undergraduate degree of Birmingham-Southern College, he also holds master’s degrees in business administration and health administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Haushalter currently resides in Fort Wayne with his wife Kristin and two-year-old son.

Administrator selected
Adams Health Network’s board of trustees selected Wednesday Thomas J. Nordwick to serve as hospital administrator.
Nordwick was unanimously selected after a six-month search to replace 22-year administrator Marvin L. Baird. He most recently served as CEO and administrator of Memorial Hospital of Converse County, located in Douglas, Wyo.
Split decision
The Area Planning Commission of Randolph County split in a 5-4 vote on whether to rezone a 20 acre plot of land near Union City that would allow a pet food flavoring plant to locate there.
The board issued a result of “no recommendation” to be returned to the Randolph County Commissioners.
The company, Naturally Recycle Proteins, plans to build a $10 million plant that could create 68 jobs with an average pay of $16.50 per hour. NRP processes “spent hens” to produce a 94 percent digestible protein that is used to flavor pet foods.
Local residents packed the meeting voicing concerns that the plant would blanket the area in an unpleasant smell.
