Champ fourth in Jay's opener (07/31/07)

JCHS girls golf

RICHMOND - The fall sports season got off to its official start Monday. And while most Jay County teams were just practicing, the girls golfers were on the course in competition.

Senior Trisha Champ paced the Patriots with a fourth-place 84 as the team finished 10th in the 13-team field at the Richmond Invitational with a total of 439.

Champ started her final season at JCHS with a seven-par, one-birdie round, trailing Trisha Witherby (79) of Richmond, Hagerstown's Alesia Melton (81) and Anna Trotter (81) of Richmond. She posted her lone birdie of the day on the 513-yard, par-5 third hole and followed with back-to-back pars to place her 1-under through five.

She finished the front nine with a 41, and added a 43 on the back nine.

Freshman Cara Garringer, in her first round in competition, trailed Champ with a 112. She shot 54 on the front nine and turned in her only par of the day on the 304-yard, par-4 15th.

Rachel Osterholt shot a 58, and Alex Bunch had one par in her round of 126. Macey Gerber finished at 128.[[In-content Ad]]
