PARKER CITY - Trisha Champ put together another solid run on the front nine Tuesday and finished as the runner-up at the Monroe Central Invitational.
Champ finished with an 88, leading the Jay County girls golf team to a score of 443 and a fourth-place finish at Hickory Hills Golf Course. Yorktown scored a 403 to win the event behind match medalist Kelly Short, and Muncie Central was second at 419.
Short ran away with the victory, shooting 15 strokes better than the rest of the field with a 1-over-par 73. Champ was next best as she put together an even-par stretch over five holes on the front nine.
She had pars on the third, fourth and seventh holes - all par 4s - birdied the par-4 fifth and bogied the par-5 sixth during her hot streak. She finished the front nine with a 4-over-par 40 and had one par on the back for her team-best total of 88.
Freshman Cara Garringer finished with the No. 2 score on the team for the second straight tournament to open the season. She matched Champ's par on the third hole and added bogies on two of the next three en route to a 117.
Rachel Osterholt was one stroke behind Garringer with a 118, and Alex Bunch was the only Patriot other than Champ to record a birdie. Bunch played the par-4 11th hole at 1-under and added a par on the par-5 16th for a 120.
