Champ shatters school record (08/30/07)
JCHS girls golf
FARMLAND - Let the records continue to fall.
A day after helping the Jay County girls golf team snap the school scoring record, Trisha Champ brought down her own mark. The senior shot a 2-under-par 34 at Hickory Hills Golf Course to improve upon her previous school record of 1-over-par, leading the Patriots to a 178-238 victory over Monroe Central.
Three consecutive pars gave Champ a solid start, and she made her run at the record over the next four holes.
Her drive on No. 4 at Hickory Hills went 265 yards, leaving her just short of the green. She chipped to within four feet and dropped the birdie putt to move to 1-under.
After another par on No. 5, Champ reached the par-5 sixth hole in two shots for a 15-foot eagle try. That putt narrowly missed and she tapped in for a second birdie.
She proceeded to drive the green on the par-4 seventh hole, again giving herself an eagle putt. She put that attempt close again and tapped in for her third birdie of the day.
Champ turned in her lone bogey on the par-3 eighth hole, then got up-and-down from just off the green on number nine to finish her record round.
Rachel Osterholt also turned in the best score of her career as Jay County finished just two strokes off the record it set a night earlier. She bogied three of the first four holes and also played 1-over on No. 7 for a total of 51.
Jennifer Hunt racked up pars on the first, sixth and seventh holes for a 46, and Cara Garringer had two pars in her round of 47. It was the second straight night under 50 for both players, neither of whom has shot below the half-century mark prior to Tuesday.
Ivy Simons had one par as she matched Osterholt's 51, and Macey Gerber finished with a 58.
Emily Smithson was the low scorer for Monroe Central with a 53.[[In-content Ad]]
