Changes ahead for CR web site

Business Roundup

The Commercial Review’s web site is getting a new look next week, and there will be a change in how subscribers log in.
Beginning Monday, the username will be a subscriber’s CR account number. The password will be the subscriber’s last name. That’s just the opposite of the current arrangement.
A subscriber’s account number is listed on customers’ renewal cards.
If a subscriber doesn’t know his account number, he can e-mail [email protected] or call The CR at (260) 726-8141.
The new site will have a number of improvements.
The CR maintains its web site as a service to newspaper subscribers. A web-only subscription is also available.

EPC expanding
Elkhart Products Corp. is planning an expansion of its Geneva plant that could mean the addition of 32 to 45 jobs.
Town manager Doug Milligan told council members this week the company intends to boost production of aluminum pistons by 60 percent with an investment of about $3.4 million.

Hit by lightning
A lightning strike Thursday afternoon is believed to be the cause of a fire which badly damaged Littler Diecast’s aluminum alloy die-casting plant in Albany.
Firemen from several area departments battled the fire which gutted the building.

Ahoy, chips
Saratoga Potato Chips LLC announced Thursday it plans to invest more than $4.9 million to establish a production facility near Fort Wayne.
The plant, which is expected to create up to 175 jobs, will produce potato chips, kettle chips, and popcorn in leased space west of Fort Wayne near Bass and Hadley roads.
The facility will also be the U.S. headquarters for the Canadian company.

Deal opposed
Twenty-one organizations have formed a coalition in opposition to Comcast’s proposed takeover of NBC Universal.

The Coalition for Competition in the Media includes advocacy groups, independent programmers, and telecommunications workers.
The proposed $28 billion deal would give Comcast control of NBC’s network, its cable channels, its owned-and-operated TV stations, and a movie studio.
The Federal Communications Commission is currently reviewing the proposed transaction.
Comcast, based in Philadelphia, is the largest cable TV company in the U.S.

Overall sales increased 8.4 percent to $5.6 billion. Same-store results, sales in stores open more than a year, were contrary to the typical currents in the drugstore industry.

Curves shrinking
Curves International Inc. has struggled as its U.S. franchises shrunk by about a 1,000 locations while the company tries to keep up with other fitness chains.
Curves held about four million members at the end of 2008 and despite the closings, the company has remained profitable, earning $16.4 million in 2009.
