Chief boys champions at Relays (05/09/05)

East Jay Relays

PORTLAND — Area teams took the top three boys spots at the East Jay Relays this weekend.

The host Chiefs won the six-team event Saturday, posting 119.2 points. South Adams was second with 77, and West Jay was right behind with 73.2.

South Adams placed second to champion Adams Central in the girls competition, 102-93.5. East Jay took fourth with 62.5 points and West Jay was sixth with 10 points.

East Jay’s boys won the title thanks to four relay wins and a big individual effort from Dexter Shreve.

Ben Walter, Brad Horn, Joe Imel and Preston Roberts teamed for two of the relay wins. They took the seventh grade 4x100-meter relay in 57.60 seconds, and were first in the seventh grade 4x200 relay in 2-minutes flat.

Shreve accounted for two more wins on his own. He easily won the high jump by six inches over Cody Meshberger of South Adams at five feet, six inches, and edged the Starfires’ Kyle DeArmond for the 110 hurdles win in 16.3.

Brandon Reynard took the Chiefs’ other individual win in the 100 dash in 11.8.

Reynard then teamed with Lance Franklin, Jason Rosenbeck and Nathan Stephen for first in the eighth grade 4x200 relay in 1:47.

Franklin, Isaac Poole, Jacob Chenoweth and Patrick Johnson took first in the 4x400 relay in 4:16.20.

Andrew Lancaster posted the top efforts for West Jay, winning both the discus and the shot put.

He finished ahead of teammate Logan Dull in the discus at 125 feet, eight inches, and was first in the shot put at 41 feet, three inches.

The East Jay team of Katie Butcher, Pazia Speed, Michelle Landfair and Kylie Wellman posted the lone win for the girls team, taking first in the distance medley in 8:19.

Kinsey Lengerich took the only South Adams win in the high jump at four feet, eight inches.

The top finish for West Jay also came in the high jump where Lindsey Current was fourth at four feet, six inches.[[In-content Ad]]
