Chief boys win 2 over Raiders (12/15/06)

In their final action before the holiday break, East Jay Middle School's boys came up with a pair of victories.

The eighth grade boys held off the Southern Wells Raiders Thursday, 35-29. The seventh graders improved to 5-2 with a 43-30 win.

Aaron Emerick and Garrett Krieg each reached double figures in the victory for the eighth grade team (4-3), finishing with 12 and 10 points respectively. Drew Houck added five points.

The seventh grade squad put a pair in double figures as well with Andy Haffner scoring 13 points and Darren Scott adding 10. Matt Landfair and Austin Cowan followed with six points apiece.

Rough week for WJ girls

West Jay Middle School's girls had a difficult back-to-back.

The eighth grade team lost 30-13 to visiting Winchester Driver Thursday, and the seventh graders fell 37-7.

The teams also lost at Crestview Wednesday night by scores of 24-16 and 53-2 respectively.

Taylor Burris was the high scorer in both games for the eighth graders, putting up eight points against Driver and seven versus Crestview. Annie Jetmore added five points Thursday, and Melynda Brackman had four Wednesday.

Paige Alsip, Marissa Murrell and Megan Sawyer each scored two points for the seventh grade team against Driver. Kelsey Sell had the only two points in the defeat at Crestview.

Tribe 7th wins first

FORT RECOVERY - The Fort Recovery seventh grade boys team came up with its first victory of the season Thursday, 29-26 over the Coldwater Cavaliers. The eighth graders just missed getting their first as well, losing 44-41 in overtime.

Jared Kahlig led the eighth grade Indians (1-3), who were up by one at the end of the second and third quarters before pushing to the three-point win. He scored 13 points.

Jason Pottkotter added seven points, and Jacob Whitacre scored six.

John Homan put in 14 points in the eighth grade game, which was tied at 33 at the end of regulation. Craig Fortkamp had 11 points, and Nate Bihn scored seven.

Eagles fall to Montpelier

MONTPELIER - The West Jay Middle School eighth grade boys made a furious comeback Thursday, but fell 41-36 in overtime to Montpelier. The seventh graders also lost, 59-21.

The Eagle eighth grade team trailed by five points in the final minute, but Cody Nelson scored two points off a steal, then hit a long 3-pointer at the buzzer to force the extra session. Zach Cash finished with 14 points in the defeat, Nelson had seven and Ryan Miskinis added six.

Calvin Wyatt did most of the scoring for the seventh graders, finishing with 14 points.
