Chief seventh grade tops Delta (10/21/04)
MUNCIE — Those Delta Eagles nearly swiped a victory from the East Jay seventh grade football team Wednesday.
Delta grabbed the lead with a touchdown with 2:16 remaining. But, the Chiefs rallied with back with a score of their own, and an interception by Nick Stephen sealed their 18-14 win.
East Jay (4-4) led 12-6 thanks to a 6-yard touchdown run by Ben Vance in the third quarter, but Delta came back in the fourth. Logan Young tied the game on a 50-yard touchdown run and gave the host Eagles the lead as he ran in for the two-point conversion.
Taking the ball with just two minutes remaining, the Chiefs came roaring back.
They marched down the field in plenty of time, with quarterback Alex Langenkamp hitting Austin Emerick on a 19-yard touchdown pass with just 48 seconds left. The two-point conversion pass was no good, but it didn’t matter.
Delta took the ball with 40 seconds remaining, but its first pass was picked off by Stephen near the Eagle sideline. Kyle Blowers and Tyler Freyburgher also had one fumble recovery each in the game.
East Jay’s first score, which came in the opening quarter, was a 3-yard pass from Langenkamp to Jacob Chenoweth. It was set up by a 40-yard run by Scott Houston.[[In-content Ad]]
