Chiefs overpower Dennis (09/24/04)

PORTLAND — The Richmond Dennis cross country team was no match for East Jay Thursday. The Chief girls swept the top six spots for a 15-40 victory, and the boys took five of the top six positions for a 17-38 victory.
Kylie Wellman led the domination of the girls race, finishing in 10-minutes, 16 seconds. Tiffani Helms was second in 10:31, and Cassie Laux was third in 10:51.
Leah Wellman placed fourth in 11:03, and Katie Butcher rounded out the team score in 11:16. Tricia Helms was just two seconds behind Butcher as she took sixth place.
Kyle Simmons was the front man in a one-two-three finish for the boys as he took first place in 9:26.
Patrick Johnson was second in 9:40, and Isaac Poole finished third in 9:50.
Steven Kelly was in fifth place in 9:56, and Jordan Moser took sixth in 9:59.
WJ gridders fall
MONTPELIER — West Jay’s football teams couldn’t come away with a victory Tuesday as the eighth graders fell to Blackford 26-16 and the seventh grade team lost 28-8.
Alan Brown scored both touchdowns for the eighth graders (2-2) on runs of 57 and 20 yards. Brown and Shay White each had a two-point conversion run.
Dillon Easton scored the seventh grade touchdown on a 50-yard pass from Drew Locke. Locke hit Michael Daniels for the two-point conversion.
Easton’s score left the Eagles (0-3-2) down 16-8 at halftime, but they failed to score in the second half as Blackford pulled away.

The Fort Recovery football team will play at Lima Central Catholic Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
To get to LCC from Fort Recovery take Ohio 49 north to U.S. 29. Turn right and follow U.S. 29/33 east through Celina and to I-75.
Take I-75 north to exit 125 and turn left on Ohio 309/117 West. Stay right when the road splits and becomes Bellfountaine Street. It will later become Market Street, and Lima Stadium is just beyond the railroad tracks.[[In-content Ad]]
