Christmas at the Cabin scheduled (11/27/07)
Taking Note
Christmas at the Cabin will be held Saturday, Dec. 8, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Limberlost State Historic Site in Geneva.
Refreshments will be served, crafts wil be made and entertainment will include an early 20th century Christmas program by Porter re-enactor Vicki Kibellus and a slide show about the Limberlost Swamp.
Children can enjoy an outdoor treasure hunt or visit Santa inside.
Admission is $3 and groups should register by Dec. 6. For more information or to make reservations, call (260) 368-7428.
Essay winners named
Aaron Loy and Mariah Horniday from East Jay Middle School were named the winners of the Dick Lugar Youth Essay Contest.
The eighth graders were to write essays on the theme "Energy Aware - Energy Independent" to consider the types of alternative energy available.
They will be recognized at the Indiana Farm Bureau State Convention on Dec. 7 in Indianapolis and will now compete at the state level.

An Enchanted Luminaria Walk will be held Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Minnetrista Cultural Center in Muncie. There will be carriage rides, food, music and luminary decorations.
Meet author Marion Blumenthal Lazan on Tuesday, Dec. 4, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. She is the author of "Four Perfect Pebbles: A Holocaust Story." She will also appear at Pruis Hall at Ball State University on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. and at Parker City Christ Fellowship on Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m. Registration is required.
Gingerbread House Workshop is on Saturday, Dec. 8, from 1 to 3 p.m. Registration deadline is Saturday, Dec. 1.
Bend, Balance and Belly Dance on Saturday, Dec. 29, from 1 to 3 p.m. Children, ages 4 to 9, will practice endurance, strength and flexibility. Registration deadline is Wednesday, Dec. 26.
Show and Tell: Dance, Dance is on Saturday, Dec. 29, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Dance with belly dancers from the Laughing Monkeys.

Community Christmas
Harter Park in Union City is decorated for the second annual "A Community Christmas."
The lighted display is open Monday through Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 6 to 10 p.m. through New Year's Eve.
Vehicles may enter from either drive off of Jackson Pike on the east end of the park.
Christmas walk
The Fort Recovery First Church of Christ will have a Christmas Walk on Saturday and Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. There will be seven different scenes, with a fire at each to keep warm. The walk will take approximately 20 minutes.
The church is located one and one-half miles south of Fort Recovery on Union City Road.
To direct
Kristin Sollenberger, Dunkirk, a graduate of Jay County High School, will direct two productiions at the University of Indianapolis.
As part of the Department of Theatre's Student-Directed Productions, Sollenberger will direct "A Period Piece" and "The Problem" Nov. 30 through Dec. 2 and Dec. 6 through the 8 at 8 p.m.
