Taking Note
Arts Place in Portland has announced it schedule for Innovations classes to begin in September.
Portfolio Plus is for students in grades six through 12 and offers projects in sculpture, drawing, painting, ceramics and more. The class will meet each Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. from Sept. 10 to Oct. 29 and Nov. 5 and Jan. 7.
Hip Hop Dance is for students 14 and older and will teach the newest dance steps. The class will meet each Monday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. from Sept. 10 to Oct. 29 and Nov. 5 and Jan. 7.
Jazz Dance is for students 14 and older and will teach this classic dance. The class will meet each Monday from 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. from Sept. 10 to Oct. 29 and Nov. 5 and Jan. 7.
Oil Painting is for beginning and intermediate painters and will teach the technical aspects of painting. The class will meet each Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. from Sept. 11 to Oct. 30 and Nov. 6 and Jan. 8.
After School Arts is for students in kindergarten through sixth grade and includes gallery visits and studio projects. The class meets each Wednesday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. from Sept. 12 to Oct. 31 and Nov. 7 and Jan. 9.
Ceramic Mix is for all ages and includes using the pottery wheel. The class meets each Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. from Sept. 12 to Oct. 31 and Nov. 7 and Jan. 16.
Watercolors is for all ages and will include painting landscapes. The class will meet each Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. from Sept. 13 to Nov. 1 and Nov. 8 and Jan. 17.
Bellydancing will teach tribal basics, using the hula hoop and the veil dance. Tribal basics will meet Saturday, Sept. 29, from 1 to 3 p.m.; Percussion will meet Saturday, Sept. 29, from 3 to 5 p.m.; Veil will meet Saturday, Oct. 6, from 1 to 3 p.m. and Hoop will meet Saturday, Oct. 6, from 3 to 5 p.m.

Children and adults are invited to meet author and former Jay County resident Dianna Brisco on Monday, Aug. 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Dunkirk Public Library and Tuesday, Aug. 7, at 1 p.m. at Jay County Public Library.
Brisco will brainstorm with children to write a book together. Also her book "The Day Marcus Flew" will be available for sale and signing.
