Coblentz scores 26 in Stars' victory (12/01/06)

MUNCIE - The South Adams senior girls wanted to change their losing culture this year. Thursday night, Kayla Coblentz delivered.
Coblentz poured in a career-high 26 points, leading the Starfires to a 57-55 victory over the host Muncie Burris Owls.
After a halftime tie at 27, South Adams (2-4) took a 38-37 lead after three quarter and Coblentz scored 10 of the team's 19 points in the fourth for the win. The senior finished 7-of-13 from the field and made 11-of-15 free throws.
Coblentz also had team highs of six assists and six steals, and grabbed nine rebounds.
Andrea Moser added half of her 14 points in the final period. She also had 11 rebounds and three steals.
Katie Nichols finished with five rebounds and five assists for the Starfires, who have not had two wins under their belt this early in the season since 2000.
Caitlyn Vann scored 25 points to lead Burris, and Andrea Thompson added 19.
Jay freshmen dominate
UNION CITY - Jay County's freshman boys team scored nearly as many points in the opening quarter Thursday as the Union City Indians did in the entire game on the way to a 52-20 victory.
The Patriots were up 18-3 after the opening period, and continued to push the advantage throughout. Brad Horn scored all of his team-high nine points in the first quarter.
Jacob Chenoweth and John Pettus each added seven points.
Taylor Koon led Union City with eight points.
MN defeats Chiefs
The East Jay Middle School eighth grade boys team took its first loss of the year 25-23 Thursday to Muncie Northside. The Chiefs also lost in the seventh grade action, 49-21.
Drew Houck scored nine points for the eighth graders, who fell to 1-1. Austin Duncan added six points.
Andy Haffner's 10 points were tops for the seventh grade team (0-2). Matt Landfair and Jordan McBride each scored four points.[[In-content Ad]]
