Coffee tasting event set (01/22/08)
Taking Note
A coffee tasting event will be held today at Jay County Public Library from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
A variety of flavored coffees will be availabe to sample as well as some desserts.
Program partners are The Glass Bonsai and the Redkey Extension Homemakers.

A genealogy class will be held Saturday, Feb. 16, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Jay County Public Library.
Participants will try the new online genealogy resources with guidance and tips from library staff. They must have computer skills and bring names and dates to look up.
Registration is required.

Jay County Coroner Mark Barnett will present a program on Thursday, Feb. 7, at 6:30 p.m. at JCPL.
Barnett will discuss how deaths are investigated. The presentation will be held in the Community Room.

The book reading group will read "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" by Mark Twain in February.
The discussion group will meet Monday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m. Registration is necessary. For more information, visit the website at www.jaycpl.lib.in.us and click on "Adults" in the list on the left and look for the link to "Book Discussion Group."

Internet for Beginners classes for adults will meet Saturday, Feb. 2, from 9 to 11 a.m. and Thursday, Feb. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at JCPL.
Registration is necessary.

The Adult Winter Reading Program that began Jan. 14 will continue through Feb. 23. Fill out an entry form for every book you read and weekly winners will be drawn.

West Jay Middle School recently named its honor roll students for the second nine week grading period.
Making the all A honor roll in sixth grade were Brooke Hurst and Takoa Knight.
Sixth grade students making the A-B honor roll were Brea Burcham, Dayne Byrge, Alexis Clark, Rylee Clemmons, Kimbra Edwards, Betsy Huffman, Evan Masters, Mary Miller, Ashley Motter, Zachary Roush, Kyle Selvey and Alex Thompson.
Seventh grade students making the all A honor roll were Tyler Back, Laura Morrison, Clayton Scott and Shelby Wendel.
Students making the A-B honor roll in seventh grade were Kyle Bullock, Blake Crouch, Jason Farmer, Kortney Garringer, Audrey Hall, Courtney Knight and Tasha McCowan.
Eighth grade students making the all A honor roll were Devin Conatser and Matt Shrack.
Students making the A-B honor roll in eighth grade were Taylor Caldwell, Jessica Chittum, Katie Current, Dylan Friddle, Morton Garringer, Aaron Helm, Caz Lawhorn, Mackenzie McIntire, Marissa Murrell, Melinda Penrod, Megan Roush, Stephen Scott, Kelsey Sell and Shannon Springer.
Speech winners
The Optimist Oratorical Speech Contest was recently held at Bloomfield Elementary.
Winning first place in the girls' division was Abigail Saxman. She is a fourth grader and the daughter of Bill and Misty Saxman.
The runner-up was Abby Wendel. She is a fourth grade student and the daughter of Ed and Jacque Wendel.
There were no participants in the boys' division.
Art classes
The South Adams Senior Center will offer a beginner and intermediate oil painting class beginning Feb. 13.
The class will meet from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. each week and continue for six weeks.
The class will be taught by Gedda Starlin and will cost $60 for supplies and instruction.
The deadline to sign up for the class is Jan. 30. To sign up call the Senior Center at (260) 589-8877.
