Comer earns all-state honor

INDIANAPOLIS — Jay County High School junior Kegan Comer picked up another award Friday.
Comer, the Patriots’ point guard, was an underclass all-state honorable mention selection by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.
The junior was Jay County’s No. 2 scorer this season at 13 points per game while shooting 55 percent from the field and 45 percent from 3-point range. He led the Patriots (18-4) with an average of 4.6 assists, and grabbed 77 rebounds this season.
Comer and teammate Brock McFarland were also selected recently to participate in the IBCA Top 100 Underclassman Showcase in July. JCHS coach Craig Teagle was selected to coach The Indianapolis Star Indiana All-Star boys basketball team in its annual doubleheader against Kentucky on June 8 and 9.

Hemmelgarn to play
Jay County senior Kassi Hemmelgarn will play Saturday in the East/West High School All-Star Basketball Games sponsored by PostYourT.org.

Hemmelgarn, who averaged 10.7 points per game this season, will play for the Class 3A/4A East team along with players from Center Grove, Madison, North Harrison, Lawrence Central, Eastbrook, Roosevelt and Warren Central. She shot 39 percent from 3-pont range while also averaging 1.9 assists.
The all-star games will be at East Jay Middle School, beginning with the underclassmen game at 1 p.m. The Class 1A/2A game will follow at 3 p.m., with the Class 3A/4A game to be played at 5 p.m.

Jay 7th goes 3-0
FAIRMOUNT — Jay County’s seventh grade travel girls basketball team won all three of its games Friday and Saturday.
The team opened with a 33-11 victory Friday over Blast Explosion, and then defeated Blast Thunder 42-12 on Saturday. It also topped Northwestern 37-21 on Saturday.
Samantha Back led Jay County to both of its Saturday victories, scoring eight points against the Blast Thunder and six versus Northwestern. Kyndal Miller and Deanna Chenoweth each had nine points in Friday’s win.[[In-content Ad]]
