Local roundup

CONNERSVILLE - The Spartans were struggling, the Patriots on a roll. But the patterns did not hold up Wednesday night.

Jay County's baseball team saw its five-game winning streak come to an end, falling 9-5 to the Olympic Athletic Conference rival Connersville Spartans.

The Patriots (6-2, 1-1 OAC) got a home run for the third straight game from Josh Ludy, but it came after they fell behind 9-0 after four innings. They managed five runs in the final three frames - three in the sixth - but could not dig out of the hole.

Michael Jobe suffered his first loss of the season, allowing five runs on four hits and five walks as he survived just three innings. Connersville (2-8) pushed his ERA from 0.41 through his first three starts to 2.10.

Trey Dunn gave up four runs - two earned - in one inning of relief.

Ludy homered and drove in two runs, and Casey Waters finished 2-for-3 with a double and a run. Thomas McCowan also had a double and a run.
