Counseling programs honored
Taking Note
The counseling programs at East Jay Middle School, West Jay Middle School and Jay County High School were recently honored by the Indiana Department of Education and will receive the Indiana Gold Star School Counseling Award.
Gold Star schools must raise student achievement by creating local community advisory groups that review student data, set student goals and commit to maximizing the time and skills of school counselors. Schools choose to implement either a four-part workshop series or an online video workshop course to implement the Indiana Gold Star School Counseling model.
Lee Newman, principal of East Jay; Tammy Velasco, counselor at East Jay; Mike Crull, principal at West Jay; Laura McConnell, counselor at West Jay; and Cindy Wolverton, math teacher at West Jay; also participated in training sessions last school year to learn how to implement the counseling model.
Drumline winner
Dylan Franks, a member of the Jay County High School Patriot Band, won the 2011 Indiana Music Educators Association composition competition in the Percussion Ensemle/Drumline category.
His composition was entitled “Sumthin’ Tickin.” See imeamusic.org under composition competition for more information.[[In-content Ad]]
