Crash claims Fort teen (11/10/03)
Accident Friday was south of town
A Fort Recovery teenager died Friday evening following a one-vehicle accident near Fort Recovery.
Chasity Weagant, 14, 4765 Ohio 49, was pronounced dead at Mercer County Community Hospital in Coldwater, Ohio.
Mercer County police are investigating the 6:07 p.m. accident that occurred on Union City Road, just south of Fort Recovery.
Weagant was a passenger in the back seat of a 1993 Chevrolet Lumina, driven by Jacklyn Guggenbiller, 17, 2799 Watkins Road, Fort Recovery. Dustin Noggler, 16, 935 Peters Road, Fort Recovery, was a front seat passenger in the car. Following the accident, the three teenagers were transported by St. Henry Emergency Medical Services to Mercer County Community Hospital.
According to information from police, Guggenbiller was driving north on Union City Road when she lost control on a curve. The car traveled off of the west side of the road into a yard at 1663 Union City Road, Fort Recovery, and collided with a tree on the rear of the passenger’s side.
“We’ll certainly miss her. She was pleasant, concerned, caring,” Fort Recovery High School principal Ed Snyder said this morning about the FRHS freshman. “It’s a real tragedy. (The school) is trying to do all we can to support the family, friends and acquaintances.”
This afternoon, FRHS is providing a bus to transport freshman students to the funeral home to attend calling.
Chasity Weagant was a member of the show choir. The group plans to perform at Weagant’s funeral. She also was a member of the Fort Recovery Church of Christ.
Born Feb. 6, 1989, in Greenville, Ohio, she was the daughter of Mike and Carolyn (Ward) Weagant, who both survive.
Surviving in addition to her parents are two sisters, Megan and Faith Weagant, both at home; one brother, Dylan Weagant, at home; paternal grandparents, Jim and Judy Weagant, Fort Recovery; maternal grandmother, Charlotte Ward, Celina, Ohio; paternal great-grandparents, Lester and Myrtle Bricker, Portland; and maternal great-grandparents, Albert and Dorothy Carden, Winchester.
Services are set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Fort Recovery Church of Christ with Pastor Glen Westmoreland officiating. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery at Fort Recovery.
Friends may call at the Brockman and Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery, from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
